***IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!!*** This clinic is to certify instructors on skills that they already have as instructors. IT IS NOT to TEACH you how to TEACH. HOWEVER, the material covered gives tremendous insight and information on how to improve on what you already know and to become a more professional and knowledgable teacher and role model. For group riding instructors dealing with progressive skill building in all levels of riders, both in the arena and on the trail. Certification may be earned in English and/or Western disciplines; minimum age for assistant certification is 16, minimum age for instructor certification is 18. Level of certification is the sole discretion of the clinic staff.

* Assistant Instructor: English and/or Western, qualified to assist in a lesson or trail ride, under the supervision of a certified instructor.
* Level 1 Instructor: qualified to provide foundational instruction to beginners, with a strong emphasis on safety and group control; candidates must demonstrate ability in ground handling, mounting, correct position and control at walk-trot.
* Level 2 Instructor: English and/or Western, qualified to improve all aspects of the first level, and progressing through canter/lope, including diagonals, balance of horse and rider, pre-jumping exercises, western patterns, trail riding, etc.
* Level 3 Instructor: English and/or Western, qualified to coach students in improving form, style and understanding of the natural aids, including basic jumping, school figures and leads with a greater emphasis on horsemanship theory and horse care.
* Level 4 Instructor: English and/or Western, qualified to improve the performance of advanced riders and their horses, including jumping courses, dressage movements, reining, and other performance events, advanced horse management and horsemanship theory.

Clinic Length: 40 hrs
Cost:$775, does NOT include lodging. A $400 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a spot with the final balance due by March 30, 2009.
Participants: 8-11 Max Participants
Horses: Appropriate lesson horses, tack and equipment are provided for all participants to use during the clinic.

Clinic Requirements:
*Required Seminars- Introduction to CHA and the clinic process; Teaching Techniques and Lesson Planning; Herd Management, Risk Management and Professionalism/CHA Standards
* Written tests- Participants will take a 100-question test (T/F, multiple choice) which tests current knowledge. The written test will precede the skills demonstration and is only a very small part of the overall evaluation. The certification awarded will be primarily based on the participant's performance during the clinic.
* Practice Lessons- A minimum of 4 practice lessons are to evaluated on safety, group control, horsemanship content, teaching technique (success of students), and professionalism. Topics may be be assigned by clinic staff or participants may choose their own from the approved list. In most cases, participants choose their ground lesson and first one or two mounted lessons, but the clinic staff assign final mounted lessons.
* Riding Evaluation-Participants are required to have riding skills above the level that they are certified to teach. The purpose of the evaluation ride is to evaluate the clinic participant's riding skills and knowledge of technical riding theory.

2. Fill in the form and return with a non refundable deposit of $400 to reserve your spot- check made payable to Christine Burbank sent to the address listed above.
3. Clinic Manuals and pre-clinic paperwork, forms and information will be mailed to participant at least 1 month prior to the clinic.
